UPS Canada Drive Into Summer Promotion

Final deliverable was an animated explainer than plays like a TV ad, informing the drivers of an incentive-based promotion. I was provided with a brief and a technical sheet explaining how the promotion worked as well as a visual style reference in the form of an Illustrator file with some boards for a previous project.
The deadline was tight: From brief to final deliverable was four days.

Script

The brief from the client asked for a “fun, lighthearted” video that focuses on the monetary rewards that the promotion offered. The visual style was established from pervious UPS videos. Also the client asked that I attempt to create an illustrated version of the president of the company to use in the video as well. Beyond that I was to use the contest rules/explanation to draw copy for my script.

Boards

Once I had the script written, it was time to get an idea of what I wanted to show to convey the information, in addition to the text. I was provided a very specific visual style by the client, so there was no need to concern myself with anything but using that visual style to tell the story of the promotion to the drivers. I did this predominantly for myself so I could do an animatic and get the timing roughly worked out before I started working in After Effects. With such a tight timeline, the boards are far from perfect, or fancy, but I was able to block out what I needed to move forward.

Final Video

Using A combination of Adobe Illustrator, After Effects and Character Animator, I put the the video together based on the script and a rough anamatic that I made from the story boards.
